Political Communications
The Venture
1000 MORE is a non-partisan app that removes barriers to civic empowerment for communities who have traditionally been disenfranchised, so that average Americans can disrupt the big lobby. We do this by facilitating education on upcoming legislation, communication with elected officials, and crowdfunding advocacy efforts.
The Role
As we ramp up customer acquisition, our team needs a political communications expert who is eager to meet people where they’re at and bring them into the civic engagement fold.
This is an opportunity to work at a start-up that is revolutionizing democracy by expanding civic empowerment. In this role you will:
Research & update legislation in 1000 MORE platform weekly
Research new bills using GovTrack and Congress.gov
Make & distribute list of bills for weekly digital call (w/ links) in agenda
Find bills in the platform
Rewrite simple summary at a 3rd Grade level
Research and input org details for donation feature
Push in platform
Flag additional bills throughout the week and write summary / research & add org details for donation feature / push as needed
Newsletter
Write content for a newsletter that is a 5-minute read, inclusive of 4-5 bills moving through Congress and arrange it into the pre-designed layout with appropriate GIF's using Mailchimp
Manage revisions
Update email list with new sign ups and send it
Digital Marketing
Update website as needed
Create and update marketing documents as needed
Social Media
Design and execute social media strategy for the product, and individual bills (on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook)
Create graphics on Canva = 2 graphics or pre made videos that you only add words to per week, carrousels will be counted as 1
Draft tweets, manage approval and editing process, and post at least 4 per week
Co-produce 3 videos with CEO or influencers each week for Instagram, Tik Tok and Youtube; would be responsible for video editing
Write captions for each post. Captions should always be short for time's sake. 5 sentence max
Post content on social media, at minimum 10 published pieces/week, and engage for at least 10 minutes before and after each post. This includes graphics and videos
Monitor all active social accounts and engage daily
Manage influencer collaborations
Track keywords, hashtags, engagement, and traffic on accounts on a weekly basis via social listening and analytics
Develop and track KPI’s
Participate in up to one-hour of strategy meetings each week
Earned Media
Identify and pitch print and broadcast outlets, podcasts, speaking opportunities, and other earned media opportunities
Draft press releases, op-eds, and talking points
The Ideal Candidate
Technical ability
Organized
Strong writer (AP Style)
Knowledgeable of politics
Experience with political research, earned media, social media and email marketing
Detail oriented
Passionate about civic empowerment
A strong desire to work on a team that is empowering traditionally marginalized people in the U.S.
