HAPPENINGS ON THE HILL
Executive Action: Cancelling Student Loan Debt
This week, President Joe Biden announced student loan debt forgiveness for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year: up to $20,000 for those who received Pell Grants and up to $10,000 for those who did not.
Biden also extended the student loan repayment pause through December 31, 2022 and capped repayments of undergraduate loans at 5% of one's monthly income.
Yet activists are asking Biden to cancel all student loan debt, calling it a racial justice issue, as significant disparities exist in average amounts owed.
You can use 1000 MORE to contact President Biden and let him know whether or not you support this week's Executive Action on student loan debt, and other Executive Actions you want him to take.
Her hairstyle may have changed.
Her message has not.
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-CA and 216 other members of the House - 215 Democrats & 2 Republicans - passed the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.
Now the bill is in the Senate, and President Joe Biden publicly said that he wanted to pass it during the Inflation Reduction Act signing on August 16th.
You can use 1000 MORE to learn about the bill and connect with your Senators on it.
It's August Recess
All of your representatives are now in a “District Work Period”, AKA August Recess!
Your representatives in Congress spend a lot of time working in Washington, D.C., but district work periods allow them to return home and reconnect with their constituents.
While back in their home districts, your reps are probably making appearances and hosting town halls to hear from the people who live there – like you! With midterm elections around the corner, your reps want to know how you think they are doing and what important issues you want to see them address in legislation.
You can use 1000 MORE to contact your representatives’ offices and ask for details on when they will be available to the public in a town hall, teleconference, or other events and appearances near you.

YOUR WEEKLY FAQ
Q: Why don’t you have state and local legislation?
A: At 1000 MORE we know that participation in politics at the state and local level is important and we are working to launch state and local features as soon as possible. We started with federal legislation so we could reach the largest amount of customers. With federal legislation we cover 535 members of congress and thousands of pieces of legislation each year. When we launch to states, those numbers will multiply by 50. That is going require a larger team, so the best way to help us launch state and local features sooner, is to use the app and spread the word!
