Sounds cool, but what’s civics?
The term civics comes from the Latin word civis, which means “townsperson”, or community member. Technically speaking, civics is the study of the rights and responsibilities of people in a society.
But at 1000 MORE, when we say civics, what we mean is civic engagement: all the ways that you can take action on behalf of your community to meet needs and deliver change. This could be learning about legislation, calling and emailing your representatives, voting or registering to vote, donating to advocacy organizations making change, and / or talking about civics on social media.
That’s why we build our platform to be the hub for civic news and action, so that you can do all of these things in one place, from the comfort of your own phone.
Civics, uncomplicated
Stop doomscrolling, and start taking informed action in our hub!
At 1000 MORE, we know that the news can be overwhelming, politics can be frustrating, and the process can leave you asking, as one person, what can I actually do to make change?
That’s exactly why we’re here: to offer a space where you can learn about and take action on all things happening in Congress, giving you a boost of energy from doing your civic duty to uplift your community’s needs.
As our national legislative body, Congress a place where everyone should have a voice and representatives should use their votes to reflect the will of the people they represent. When we all take action together, we can make the changes we want to see happen in our communities.
Things won’t change unless everyday people choose to stand up and get involved in the process. That’s why we created 1000 MORE, a tool for everyday people to make our voices are heard in Washington.
-
The first step in taking civic action is reading up on what is happening in Congress so that you can take informed action.
Our hub features short, nonpartisan summaries of legislation coming up for a vote and popular arguments for and against bills, so you don’t need a law degree to follow what’s happening on Capitol Hill.
-
The next step is finding out who your elected officials are and choose the option to connect with them that works for you - phone, email or Twitter.
Congress needs to hear from community members like you, so that the Big Lobby aren’t the only voices they are hearing from.
Doing your civic duty to tell your representatives how YOU want them to vote.
Never done this before? We got you. We provide a little script to use as part of the process, customized for every bill you care about.
-
When people who make small dollar contributions give together, the donations add up to go the distance and make change.
Using 1000 MORE, you can learn which organizations are advocating for and against bills, and then donate to ones taking action the bills you care about.
-
When most people think about civics, they immediately think about voting.
But voting for representation on Washington only happens every few years.
That’s why we set up 1000 MORE so you can check your registration as needed to make sure it’s up to date, so you are prepared when the time comes.
Not yet registered to vote? Use our platform to do that too!
-
Calling and emailing Congress is not the only way to take civic action!
You can let your social media community know about bills and upcoming votes, and also Tweet your representatives about legislation as well!
Our civic empowerment platform is the first of its kind.
We designed it to break barriers to civic participation with personalized, nonpartisan education, connection, donation, voter registration, and social media options all in one place.
So, how do we do it?
Most civically engaged Americans vote every
2-4 years,
while full-time lobbyists have the ears of our elected officials
every single day.
1000 MORE makes it easy for people to influence on the policies that govern our lives.
Why 1000 MORE?
Founder D’Seanté Parks named the platform after her favorite quote, often misattributed to Harriet Tubman, “I freed 1000 slaves, I could have freed 1000 more, if only they had known they were slaves.”
We believe that if only people knew how powerful their voice is in a democracy, they would realize their full civic power.
